A detailed study of Latin America from the end of the colonial period to the rise of modern nations, with special emphasis on Latin America’s relationship to the United States. Three units on Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean 1820 to the Present; Venezuela and Colombia 1820 to the Present; and Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru 1820 to the Present. Includes in-depth coverage of the role of women. Lectures, readings, and discussion.
