Engineering Technology
Engineering Technology (ET) is an applied engineering discipline that focuses on the practical application of scientific and engineering principles to solve real-world technological problems. While Engineering Technology professionals can certainly contribute to innovation and improvement of existing systems, the field emphasizes the implementation, operation, and application of established engineering methods rather than the heavy theoretical analysis found in traditional engineering programs.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Engineering Technology prepares graduates for careers across industry and government by combining applied scientific knowledge with hands-on technical skills. The program stresses practical problem-solving, system implementation, and the application of technology, while also supporting pathways to engineering-related professions, advanced study, and lifelong learning.
The Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET (www.abet.org).
Engineering Technology Concentrations
Students must choose one of the following Engineering Technology concentrations: Computer Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Electrical Energy Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics Engineering Technology. A Bachelor of Science degree is awarded upon successful completion of all required coursework, including the Engineering Technology core curriculum, the specific curriculum associated with the chosen concentration, and all relevant technical electives.

Bachelor’s Degree Program in Engineering Technology (ET Major)
There are 31 credit hours of required core courses, 30 to 33 credit hours of concentration required courses, and an additional 3 to 9 credit hours of technical elective courses required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology.
Industrial Technology Program
Industrial Technology is a management-oriented, technically focused discipline that supports engineering and industrial operations. The curriculum is built on a balanced program of studies drawn from a variety of disciplines related to manufacturing technology and the technical services that support modern industry. Students develop a strong understanding of materials and production processes; principles of distribution; industrial management and human relations; essential communication, humanities, and social science competencies. In addition, the program provides proficiency in physical sciences, mathematics, design, and technical skills necessary to address technical-managerial and production challenges.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Industrial Technology prepares graduates for careers as technical professionals with both managerial and applied engineering competencies. Their background includes practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials, industrial management, human relations, communication skills, mathematics, the physical sciences, and current technical applications, enabling them to meet the needs of technical, engineering-support, and industrial environments.
The Industrial Technology program at Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering, ATMAE (www.atmae.org).
Industrial Technology Concentrations
Students must choose one of the Industrial Technology concentrations: Automated Systems, Drafting and Design, Supervision, or Welding. A Bachelor of Science degree is awarded upon successful completion of all required coursework, including the Industrial Technology core curriculum and the curriculum associated with the selected concentration. Bachelor’s Degree Program in Industrial Technology (IT Major)
There are 33 credit hours of required core courses and 27 credit hours of concentration required courses for the Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology.
Associate Degree Program in Industrial Technology (IT - AAS Major)
The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program in the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology is designed to prepare graduates for immediate entry into a variety of industrial fields after completing two years of study. Graduates may also choose to continue their education in one of the four-year Industrial Technology concentrations. Upon successful completion of the two-year curriculum, students are awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree.
Associate Degree Concentrations
Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science in Industrial and Engineering Technology may choose from concentrations in Construction Technology, which prepares students for technical roles in construction management and field operations; Design/Drafting, focusing on CAD applications and technical design principles; Supervision, developing leadership and industrial management skills; and Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSH&E), providing foundational knowledge in workplace safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental practices. Graduates of any concentration are prepared for immediate entry into industry or for continuation into a four-year Industrial Technology or OSH&E program.
Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Program
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSH&E) delivers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares graduates to become qualified professionals in safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental protection. Graduates are well-positioned for careers as Safety Engineers, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialists, Safety Officers, Safety Managers, Industrial Hygienists, and related roles across industries such as oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, healthcare, government, and virtually every sector where workplace safety is critical. The program equips students with the technical knowledge, regulatory awareness, and practical skills necessary to assess work environments, identify hazards, implement safety and environmental programs, ensure compliance, and lead safety initiatives. The OSH&E program is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET (www.abet.org).
Bachelor’s Degree Program in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE Major)
The OSH&E program prepares students with a broad technical and managerial foundation to succeed as occupational safety, health, and environment professionals. This includes a functional knowledge of safety, health, and environmental fundamentals; legal and regulatory aspects of workplace safety; interactions of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic agents with the human body; principles of fire prevention and protection; industrial and construction safety throughout work processes; and industrial management and human relations. Students also develop strong communication, mathematics, science, and statistical skills, along with practical laboratory techniques in industrial hygiene, exposure assessment, pollution control, accident investigation, performance measurement, and safety program management. Additionally, the program emphasizes education and training skills for workplace safety, ensuring graduates are prepared to lead and implement effective safety initiatives.
