  1. This is an educational partnership between Louisiana State University (LSU) and Southeastern Louisiana University (Southeastern) whereby students who attend both institutions may earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in physics from Southeastern and a B.S. degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from LSU upon graduation in a total of five (5) years.
  2. Students must be academically admissible to Southeastern and LSU at the time they first enroll at each institution. In addition, the student must earn a minimum grade of a “C” in all coursework taken at Southeastern that is applied toward the degree at LSU. After successfully completing the prescribed curriculum at Southeastern, the student will submit an application for transfer admission to LSU. Overall requirements for admission of transfer students to LSU are as follows:
    1. 30 or more transferable (academic, non-remedial) credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university;
    2. minimum 2.5 academic GPA on all transferable college work attempted;
    3. credit earned, with a “C” or better, in college-level math (above remedial); and
    4. credit earned, with a “C” or better, in college-level English (above remedial).
  3. The minimum requirements for the awarding of the B.S. in Physics from Southeastern in conjunction with the B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from LSU are as follows:
    1. completion of at least 30 credit hours in residence at Southeastern;
    2. completion of at least 28 hours of physics courses at the 2000-level or higher, of which at least 23 hours must be completed in residence at Southeastern, and which must be chosen from courses required of physics majors at Southeastern;
    3. a grade point average of at least 2.5 in all courses used to satisfy the graduation requirements and in all required coursework in the major field of physics;
    4. completion of the Louisiana Board of Regents general education requirements; and
    5. completion of the electrical or mechanical engineering degree program at LSU.
  4. To meet the requirements for graduation from LSU with a BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, students are to:
    1. complete the established curricula from Electrical or Mechanical Engineering - any substitutions from the curricula as published must have written approval of the department chair and the dean’s office;
    2. achieve at least a 2.00 average, as required by the university, for all work taken at LSU and on all work attempted at U.S. institutions;
    3. achieve at least a 2.00 average on all courses attempted in the major department at LSU and on all work attempted in the major field at U.S. Institutions;
    4. successfully complete a minimum of 30 hours of residence in the College of Engineering. These 30 hours are included in the university requirement that a minimum of 25 percent of the hours applied toward a degree be earned while in residence at the university. (These residence hours must include 15 hours of required major department courses or approved technical electives at the 3000- or 4000-level. Students must complete nine hours of these courses at the 4000- level in the major.);
    5. initiate the checkout procedure with the departmental advisor in the semester prior to the one in which the degree is to be awarded. The checkout is completed only when approved by the dean’s office and the Office of the University Registrar.
  5. At the beginning of the semester in which the student completes the requirements for graduation at LSU, the student must contact the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Southeastern and send an official LSU transcript (to the Department Head at Southeastern) and complete Southeastern’s graduation application process. The College of Engineering at LSU shall verify to the College of Science and Technology at Southeastern that the student has completed the requirements for graduation from LSU. At the end of the semester, once the student has completed all courses and graduated from LSU, the student must send an official LSU transcript to Southeastern’s Office of Admissions.
