ART 1610 - DESIGN STUDIO I 3 Credit Hour(s) This course is an introduction to visual communication with an emphasis on elements of design as a way to convey meaning. Students will gain an understanding of the verbal and design vocabulary necessary to engage in critical dialogue with the contemporary world. Coursework and projects will build in complexity from guided inquiry to open, self-generated methodologies and ideas. This course begins to develop core understanding of content, concept, and context. Topics may include systems and design thinking, text-image relationship, typography, compositional structures, type hierarchy, and semiotics. Six hours of studio per week.
Prerequisite(s): ART 1540 and ART 1600 or permission of the department head Laboratory Fee: A laboratory fee is required for this course. Offered: Fall, Spring
